500,000 Eggs Donated To Kentucky Food Banks

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles announced a donation Tuesday of more than a half million eggs to help address food insecurity issues.  It comes in response to increased demands during coronavirus.

Ag Commissioner Quarles says Cal-Maine Foods has donated 560,000 eggs to Feeding Kentucky.  Kentucky Heartland’s Director Jamie Sizemore says since the start of the virus pandemic, there’s been a 30 to 60% increase in demand for food in the region.

Feeding Kentucky’s seven member food banks serve all 120 counties in partnership with a network of over 800 local food pantries and shelters. Cal-Maine Foods is primarily engaged in production, grading, packing, and sale of fresh shell eggs.

Kentucky Heartland is a chapter of Feeding America, a national network of more than 200 food banks.
