HYDEN, Ky. (WYMT) – An audit of the Leslie County Sheriff’s Office revealed several things the Attorney General’s Office, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Leslie County Attorney will need to look at, according to a report released Tuesday from State Auditor Mike Harmon.

Former Leslie County Sheriff Paul Howard left office in 2014. According to the audit report, Howard is responsible for repaying more than $260,000 for a budget deficit that resulted from overspending, not recording payments correctly and spending that was “not properly documented, reasonable or necessary, and for the public purposes of the former sheriff’s office.”

More than $100,000 is owed to the fiscal court and more than $50,000 to the school system.

Howard did not give a response to any of the findings released in the audit.
