Gov. Matt Bevin said Tuesday he was offended by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s comments about groping women but seemed even more offended by Trump’s critics during an interview with WHAS Radio’s Terry Meiners on Tuesday afternoon. The governor made his first public statement about the controversial Trump comments, made a case for why Trump should be elected president, and also doubled down on his attacks against a Franklin Circuit Court judge during the interview.

Here are some of Bevin’s comments from the interview:

On Trump’s comments about groping women:

“I found it offensive as everybody else did. I’ve not met one person who didn’t find it offensive…Was it inappropriate? Of course. It was foul. It was vulgar. And it shouldn’t have any place in the public discourse. But, that said, sadly it does.”

On those who have harshly criticized Trump for his comments:

“The very same hypocrites that are supposedly outraged and offended by this are the very same people that I guarantee you were first in line to go watch ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ to see if it was trashy as the book they’ve read. And they probably listened to rap music on their way home to go play Grand Theft Auto with their kids and be encouraged to take other equally vulgar actions and language. It’s the hypocrisy of it that I’m offended by.”

On why he thinks Trump will win:

“I think he’s losing in the same way that I was supposedly losing a year ago at this time…It’s the same thing again. … There’s no passion and enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton. None. There is still passion and enthusiasm for him.”

On the Clintons:

“People are weary of the status quo. They’re weary of the corruption of the Clintons. The Clintons are straight up corrupt.”

On why he believes women support Trump:

“I can not tell you how many women are supporting this guy. They’re not going to put a bumper sticker on. They’re not going to tell people. They’re not going to put a sign in their yard. But at the end of the day, increasingly, women – more than men – are responsible for the security of their families … And they want someone who will keep them and their children safe – safe physically, safe economically, and to create opportunity. And the only choice in this race that gives them any chance at that type of security is Donald Trump.”

On Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd:

(Shepherd has ruled against Bevin in lawsuits over university funding cuts and Bevin’s overhaul of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees)

“Oh my goodness. Really and truly, this judge has been a political hack his entire life. And he still is now from the bench. He used to be a cabinet secretary in a Democrat administration… The Franklin circuit court is sadly not what it ought to be as it relates to jurisprudence and the actual upholding of the law as written. And so everyone knows that. Why do you think all of, you know, Andy Beshear, and Greg Stumbo, and all of these other Marzians and Waynes and all the rest of these yahoos that are suing me every time I turned around. I mean, come on. It’s a joke. But this too shall pass.”

A closing comment:

“We have to start being less political and start putting Kentucky’s interest first.”
