The Fayette County Clerk’s Elections Department is shut down.  It comes following an employee testing positive for coronavirus and the remaining six workers quarantined for two weeks.

Clerk Don Blevins hopes the data cleanup work can be done by employees at home. “The worst case so far would be a slight delay in getting ballots out the door.  I hope to contain that to no more than a day or two,” said Blevins.

When the affected employees return to the clerk’s office Blevins said they will likely have, quote, “a mountain of voter registration information to catch up on unless it can be done remotely.

The county clerk says other newly hired employees are prepared to do the work of stuffing envelopes and mailing ballots to voters.  Blevins said the shutdown shouldn’t impact the requesting of ballots.
