Matt Niehaus, who served in Governor Matt Bevin’s administration as Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Insurance and Executive Director of the Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Services in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, has joined McCarthy Strategic Solutions.
As Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Insurance, Niehaus oversaw the day-to-day operation of over 115 employees and a multimillion-dollar annual budget, according to a news release announcing the hire.
“Matt has been a highly-valued and trusted member of our team, bringing that rare ability to connect with people and convey the right message for strong policy,” said Kentucky Justice Secretary John Tilley. “We appreciate his commitment and exhaustive work ethic and wish him the very best on his continued success.”
Niehaus started his career in politics working for the Republican Party of Kentucky working on campaigns for the State House of Representatives. Later he went on to work for Rep. Jeff Hoover, R-Jamestown, providing legislative research and analysis for the House Republican Caucus.
Niehaus moved into government relations in the private sector working with the Kentucky Society of CPAs, where he led statewide advocacy efforts for the organization. He later moved to South Carolina and served as the Director of Government Affairs for the Home Builders Association of South Carolina, according to the release.
At McCarthy Strategic Solutions, Niehaus will focus on legislative matters before the General Assembly and Executive Branch issues, and put his knowledge and relationships to work for the firm’s clients.
“Matt is a great addition to our team,” John McCarthy said. “He brings all of his experience from many different areas of the legislative and executive branches of government, in addition to his character, he will be a tremendous value to our clients.”
