LAKESIDE PARK – Former Kentucky state senator Richard “Dick” Roeding died on Friday night at the age of 86.

Roeding, a Republican, served northern Kentucky’s 11th district from 1991 to 2009 and was Republican Whip from 1995 to 1996 and President Pro Tem from 2000 to 2004.

Sen. Mitch McConnell released the following statement on the news of Roeding’s passing:

“Elaine and I were saddened to hear about the passing of our dear friend, Senator Dick Roeding. He was a respected legislator and one the great leaders of our party. I join the people of Kentucky in honoring Dick, and he will be missed. Elaine and I send our condolences and prayers to his wife, Nancy, and his family in their time of loss.”
