The sixth district congressional race this fall will feature Republican incumbent Andy Barr and retired state engineer Geoff Young. Barr easily outdistanced first-time candidate, Lexington businessman Derek Petteys. Young secured 52% of the unofficial vote edging out Berea high school teacher and another first-time candidate Chris Preece.
Young thanked Sixth District Democrats for their willingness to think outside the box.
“And vote for a candidate like me who is radical in many ways and who doesn’t always sound like the other candidates,” said Young.
Young has run for Congress several times. He said that name recognition was definitely an advantage.
In his statement, Andy Barr said he would fight to protect national security by supporting policies to secure the southern border, stop the war on domestic energy production, restore American energy dominance, and bolster the U.S. defense.
His statement said Barr was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, National Right to Life, and the National Rifle Association.
