MANCHESTER, Ky. (WYMT) – On Monday, Gov. Matt Bevin appointed Johnny Johnson as Clay County Judge Executive.

Johnson is a three-term county magistrate and in November, the fiscal court selected him as the interim judge executive.

He succeeds Joe Asher who a grand jury indicted earlier this year along with former Road Foreman Buford Jarvis.

Johnson said his main priority in office is bringing jobs to Clay County, specifically on Elk Mountain.

“If you don’t have any jobs, you can’t move your county forward,” Johnson said. “That’s the main goal for our county. I want everybody to have water, good roads, and jobs. I don’t like for our kids to have to leave our county to go somewhere else to get a job.”

Johnson will serve the rest of Asher’s term which is set to expire November 2018.

He graduated from Clay County High School and has owned and operated Johnson’s Sporting Goods & Service Station since 1985.
