LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP/WYMT) – Updated, 7:30 p.m.
iHeart Radio asked Matt Jones to not host Kentucky Sports Radio for the time being following a complaint filed by the Republican Party of Kentucky.

The GOP complaint wants an investigation into Jones allegedly using the statewide radio show to promote himself as a candidate against U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Jones has not filed to run but did launch an exploratory committee.

Jones posted about iHeart Radio’s decision to ask him to step down on KSR’s blog Wednesday night. He calls the complaint “absolute nonsense and very disappointing from someone as powerful as McConnell.”

Though he understands the company’s decision, Jones said he will take the time off to make his decision whether to run and finish his book, titled “Mitch, Please”. He said he hopes to return to KSR in the future if he decides not to run for office.

Nice to be on the blog again, although unfortunately it is for this reason. Due to the Mitch McConnell complaint filed this morning with the FEC against me, iHeart Radio has asked that I not be on…

Let me just say this…I do not blame iHeart Radio. They have been very supportive in this entire process and wonderful to work for

I understand why they don’t need the fight considering my decision will be coming soon.

I am disappointed but not surprised about Mitch McConnell

Original Story
The Republican Party of Kentucky filed a complaint against a Kentucky Sports Radio host who is considering a run to unseat U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The complaint seeks an investigation of Matt Jones, who has announced an exploratory committee to run as a Democrat in next year’s Senate race. Another Democrat, Amy McGrath, has already filed to run.

The complaint alleges Jones is already a candidate and is using his statewide sports radio show to promote himself. The complaint cites “egregious violations” of federal campaign finance law concerning corporate contributions.

In a tweeted response Wednesday, Jones accused McConnell of trying to get his radio show canceled. He says he’s “not even a candidate at this time.”
