CARROLLTON — Two police officers suspended from the Carrollton force in the midst of misconduct allegations have been cleared of all wrongdoing.
Media outlets reported that a Carroll County jury on Tuesday acquitted police Chief Mike Willhoite and officer Ron Dickow of all charges.
Willhoite and Dickow were accused of defying a judge’s order to take an inmate to Eastern State Hospital last April, instead putting him on a bus to Florida.
The day before the incident, a judge rejected a plea deal that would have sent Adam Horine, 31, to Florida. The inmate was ordered instead to undergo a mental evaluation.
Willhoite and Dickow admitted to putting Horine on the bus, but they said it was because of a misunderstanding. Willhoite said he didn’t realize the plea deal had been rejected, and Dickow said he was following orders from Willhoite.
