The president of Kentucky’s higher education governing organization is asking students across the Commonwealth to consider their responsibilities regarding the spread of coronavirus.  All but one of Kentucky’s primary public universities began class Monday.

Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education President Aaron Thompson began his message by saying as the fall semester kicks off, much uncertainty remains.

He said the spread of the virus accelerated at exactly the wrong moment, threatening months of planning.  The CPE leader stressed much of the success of well-laid plans depends on students.

Thompson cited 20 parties broken up at East Carolina University and almost all COVID cases at Notre Dame traced to one large party.  He says this type of behavior undermines school planning but can also place the community at risk.

Thompson concluded his message to students by saying, quote, “This virus will not last forever, but your college degree will. Study hard, socialize responsibly and stay safe.​
