MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – Martin County’s new 911 service went live on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

When disaster strikes, Martin County’s 911 service wants to respond quickly.

“I think it’s a good thing, I’m really tickled myself,” Gina Patrick, Martin County resident, said.

According to Martin County 911 coordinator Eric Jude, before this new advancement Martin County 911 could only be reached through their phone lines. Now, they have mapping technology to locate where calls are coming from.

In addition to mapping technology, 911 calls are streamlined. They are now dispatching ambulance services.

“It’s going to reduce response time because we’re now dispatching the ambulance service as well. It’s something we didn’t do before,” Eric Jude said.

Patrick said safety is a priority in Martin County,

“And it’s scary because if you’ve got an emergency and you’re calling and someone is not familiar with the area, something that should take 10 to 15 minutes, can take 20 to 30,” Patrick said.

Kenith Jude, Martin County resident, shared that he believes this new system will save lives.

“I have a grandmother that’s really ill that would really benefit on a serious note,” Kenith Jude said.

This system is giving those in Martin County a peace of mind.

“It gives a sense of relief that we will be able to get to them quicker,” Eric Jude said.

Martin County 911 is also offering a new program, CodeRed. CodeRed offers the latest weather alerts and emergency notifications. To sign up visit Martin County Ky 911 on Facebook or sign up at the Martin County Government Center in Inez, Ky.
