The Republican Party of Kentucky has launched a series of robocalls against Democrats who voted against the biennium budget bill.

The calls seem to be targeting rural Democrats, mainly House members, with Republican challengers in the general election. The calls are meant to inform voters a Republican Party spokesperson said on Wednesday, when asked about the calls by Pure Politics.

“We felt it was important to communicate directly with voters in these districts and let them know the truth about their Representative’s vote on this budget and, that while they claim to be pro-education, their vote on this bill says different,” RPK spokesman Tres Watson said.

A generic copy of the robocall was given to media asking about the ad. Context of that call is available in the image below.

Democratic Rep. Dennis Keene of Wilder thanked the Republican Party of Kentucky for targeting him, saying he’s getting support from his constituents who have been called.

“I want to thank the Republican Party of Kentucky for calling voters in my district and firing them up even further. Everyone knows I voted against the bad budget and pension plan and are now calling me to express support as a result of your phone calls. Thanks again,” he wrote on Twitter.

As the Republican Party seeks to score political points it is unclear if Gov. Matt Bevin will veto the bill. Bevin taking to Twitter on Monday, wrote the bill may not meet “basic standards of fiscal responsibility.”
