The Republican State Leadership Committee is continuing its assault against House Speaker Greg Stumbo on the television airwaves, using his Election Day speech praising President Barack Obama last year and maximum contributions to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton against him.
The 30-second ad, released Tuesday, is part of a six-figure buy that will continue through Nov. 8, according toRSLC.
“Greg Stumbo said that while Obama killed coal jobs,” a male narrator says in the spot, referencing the Prestonsburg Democrat’s remarks last year that he believed in the “core values that (Obama) represents. “Now half are gone, and Hillary wants the rest.”
The ad then transitions to Clinton’s remarks at a March town hall that she would “put a lot of coal miners” out of business, a line that has haunted her campaign in Appalachia, before noting that Stumbo had maxed out to Clinton’s campaign.

Federal Election Commission records show he contributed $2,700 for Clinton’s primary campaign on May 26, 2015, and $2,700 for her general election campaign on April 22.
During a debate on Oct. 18, Stumbo pulled his endorsement from Clinton and said, “You’re not going to hear me ask people to vote for her,” according to a report by WYMT-TV in Hazard.
Stumbo’s office did not immediately return a request for comment on RSLC’s ad.
“Voters need a real ally in Frankfort who will fight for the coal industry and fight to bring jobs back to eastern Kentucky, not a career politician whose values are more in line with Obama and Clinton than the people he represents,” RSLC President Matt Walter said in a statement. “It’s time for voters to tell Speaker Stumbo that they’ve had enough on Election Day.”
