The ribbon was cut Monday morning and a grand tour given of the Sanders Brown Center on Aging which is adjacent to UK’s medical complex at Turfland. The new 15-thousand square foot clinic boasts 11 new critical trials and studies that are helping more than 600 patients in the Central Kentucky region. Dr. Gregory Jicha, a professor of Neurology and the Clinical Core Director at the Sanders Brown Center on Aging Clinic says everyone is at risk of requiring memory care. Research goals are to find ways to prevent Alzheimer’s through the development of vaccines, but treatment goes beyond medications.

More than 80,000 Kentuckians suffer from dementia. Dr. Jicah says new concerns are the age range of patients which has been dropping in recent years, he’s seen some in their 40’s, and the long term brain effects of COVID are still unknown, which means the age of patients could continue to drop while the number of patients climb.
